As a specialist in Gastroenterology and Hepatology,
I specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases
of the intestines, stomach, liver, gall bladder, bile
ducts, and pancreas and perform clinical research in
these areas. I am board certified in Gastroenterology,
which means that I have passed the rigorous examinations
of the American Board of Internal Medicine in order
to maintain my proficiency.
I was born in Florida, and grew up in Atlanta. I obtained
degrees in Science and Music while on full academic
scholarship at the Honors College of the University
of South Carolina. During my freshman year, I won the
University’s Concerto Aria Competition, and as a result,
soloed with the University Orchestra. In 1984, I began
Medical School at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine.
During this time, I was awarded a research fellowship
to study the complications of Diabetes Mellitus at Oxford
University, England. Following a residency in Internal
Medicine at Vanderbilt Medical Center, I completed a
fellowship in Gastroenterology and Digestive Diseases
at Emory University Medical Center, and have been in
practice in the Greater Atlanta area since 1993. My
research has been published in prominent medical journals.
I have served as Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine
at Emory University, as well as the Director of the
Gastroenterology Division of the Internal Medicine Residency
Program at Georgia Baptist Medical Center (Atlanta Medical
Center). Dr. Sarzen’s outside interests include his
family, religion, philosophy, music, including collaborations
with members of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, windsurfing,
mountain biking, photography, and the beauty of the
North Georgia wilderness.
